62 min
Equipment: 1 ball per player · 20 flat cones · 2 pugg goals or tall-cone goals · Bibs for 1 team · 6 tall cones for gates
1. Arrival play
Warm-up · 8 minSetup
- Field and goals set up before players arrive.
- Balls out. Whoever is here plays right away, teams even as kids arrive.
- No coaching, no lines: the game starts the practice.
Coaching points
- Greet every player by name as they join.
- Watch who is confident with the ball today.
Easier: smaller area so touches come fast. Harder: nothing, it is play.
2. Turn and Breathe
Warm-up · 12 minSetup
- Pairs across the grid, each with a ball.
- Dribble to the far line, turn with any turn, explode back 3 touches.
- Rest while your partner goes.
- 4 turns of the grid, name your turn out loud.
Coaching points
- Reach the line under control, not just fast.
- After the turn, first touch goes forward.
Easier: shorter grid. Harder: partner jogs beside as a shadow defender.
3. Knockout
Fun game · 12 minSetup
- A 20x20 yard grid. Every player dribbles their own ball inside it.
- While dribbling, kick other players balls out of the grid.
- If your ball goes out, you do 5 toe taps and come back in.
- Play for 2 minutes. Whoever kept their ball longest wins.
Coaching points
- Put your body between your ball and the attacker to shield it.
- Turn fast when a player lunges at your ball.
Easier: make the grid bigger. Harder: shrink the grid every minute.
4. King of the Ring
Fun game · 12 minSetup
- A 20x20 grid. Every player has a ball except one hunter.
- Players dribble around and keep their ball inside the grid.
- The hunter kicks balls out. A player whose ball is out becomes a hunter.
- Play until one player remains: the King of the Ring.
Coaching points
- Shield the ball with your body, arm out, ball on the far foot.
- Stay away from the crowd of hunters.
Easier: start with 2 hunters only. Harder: play the final 4 in a smaller ring.
5. Small-sided game, 5v5
Match · 18 minSetup
- Split the team into equal 5v5 teams with bibs.
- Small field with a small goal at each end. Balls behind every goal.
- Theme condition: turn out of trouble in your own half for a bonus point.
- Roll new balls in when one goes out. Keep the game flowing.
Coaching points
- Praise the theme when you see it, once, briefly.
- Let the game teach: no stoppages for coaching lectures.
Easier: bigger goals, no goalkeepers. Harder: winners stay on, or a two-touch rule for a round.
